    Valentine’s Day Hike into the Sonoran Desert

    Mountain Wash TrailheadWith cool desert temperatures of 56°F it was a spectacular morning to take a hike into the Sonoran Desert via the Mountain Wash Trail in Mesa, Arizona.  This hike is just steps away from the gated, master planned, golf community of Las Sendas.  This wonderful, easy to moderate hike takes approximately 40-60 minutes, bringing hikers into the Saguaro filled Tonto National Forest.  As you ascend in elevation, hikers experience some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Phoenix area, outside of a helicopter.  The trail is great for kids and adults.  Kids can explore the washes and look at the various rock formations on the trail, and may encounter some wildlife.  Enjoy your day.

    Snow Over Four Peaks Mountain: View from the Tonto National Forest

    Beautiful View from the Tonto National Forest  Wow!  What a uniquely rare view to catch on a beautiful day in the desert of Mesa, Arizona.  This mountain range, called Four Peaks, is a US Forest Service Wilderness Area which is contained within the Tonto National Forest.  This wilderness area encompasses over 60,000 acres.   Elevations climb from 1,900 feet near Apache Lake to 7,600 feet at Brown’s Peak. There is a network of approximately 40 miles of Trail Systems here.  To access most of the Trailheads, a 4WD or high-clearance vehicles are recommended.  

     To visit an area within the Tonto National Forest, you need to either pick up a Pass at one of Ranger locations or order one online.  Recreation Opportunity Guides are available at the Mesa Ranger Station located at 5140 E. Ingram Street in Mesa, Arizona.
